Fatalities Caused By Side Rails

Fatalities Caused By Side Rails

Poorly fitted bed rails have been known to cause asphyxiation where a resident’s neck, chest or limbs have become trapped in gaps between the bed rails, or between the bed rail and the bed, headboard or mattress. Aside from this, side rails present other risks include rolling over the top of the rail, climbing over the rail, climbing over the footboard, violently shaking and dislodging rails and forceful contact with bed rail parts.

Before you go through the complicated process of carrying out a risk assessment on your side rails, ask first; are side rails necessary? Check your options.
